The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a clamor for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're small games, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
